The Yotes and The Notes

October 16th, 2009 | by johnearnhart |

Hopefully, the chair that you were sitting on while you watched last night’s game had some stable legs. I know I was on the edge of mine for the majority of the game.

2008 Coyote Chair

(Last year’s Phoenix Coyotes game-watching chair)

Keith Tkachuk returned again to Phoenix and was held to only one shot on goal. For those of you who like reminiscing over past ex-girlfriends, I included the pic below.

The Winner in Winnipeg

Now, the recap. For starters, Shane Doan is awesome. Secondly, for those who still do not know: The Coyotes defeated the Blues last night in Phoenix in overtime by the score of 3-2. Ed Jovanovski got the game winning goal. He didn’t even need his stick. As I continue to squint through the replay, it appears that Jovo either punched or kneed the puck past goaltender Chris Mason. Doan and Upshall accounted for the Yotes’ other two goals.

To say that this win was impressive would be exaggerated. We Yotes fans have witnessed some truely impressive victories this month when we blanked the Sharks and the Pens. So, we might be spoiled and shouldn’t get too hyped with a victory over a team that hasn’t been the same since coming back to the States. Last night’s win allows us to be third in the Western Conference and FIRST PLACE IN OUR DIVISION! We will continue this home stand Saturday night against an aggressive Bruins team.

THREE STARS OF FANTASY HOCKEY

3. Ilya Bryzgalov – technically stopped 23 of 24 shots. I am not counting Paul Kariya’s goal. It now brings  Ilya to four wins, a 1.17 GAA and .952 save percentage on the season.

2. Matthew Lombardi – returned from lower back problems and netted an assist. He also tripped a guy and got to sit in the box for two minutes. Lombardi now has two goals and an assist in 2009.

1. Ed Jovanovski – smacked in the game winner and had an assist in the 2nd period. Jovo now has two assists and two goals this year.

Honorable Mention: Shane Doan – scored his first goal of the year and ended our 0-for-12 power play drought. Doan scored a career high 31 goals last season.

Negative Fantasy Moment: (as stated earlier) Paul Kariya scored when Keith Yandle and Brizzy were off staring at what I can only assume must’ve been Megan Fox. Kariya slapped the puck away from Yandle and slipped it past Bryzgalov.
